Basic Beliefs

In our world today, many claim to know Jesus Christ. But how deep is their commitment to Him? What is their allegiance to the Word of God? Since these are vital issues, we thought you would be interested in our statement of basic beliefs..

The Bible
Under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, human authors penned the sixty-six books of the Bible. We value this treasure of divine instruction as: God’s revelation of Himself to man; the supreme source of Christian beliefs; and our guide for human behavior. Because God is the Author, we believe the Bible is truth, without any mixture or error.

God
There is one, and only one, true and living God. Revealed to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the eternal God has distinct personal attributes, but with no division of nature, essence or being. As Father, He reigns with endless care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of human history. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless human life, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind by dying on a cross. After three days, He arose from the dead to demonstrate His power over sin and death. As the Holy Spirit, God comes in an invisible form to glorify Jesus, convict us of sin, resurrect the believing sinner, and to guide, instruct, and empower believers for godly living and service.

Man
The crowning work of His creation, man was made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. While the man and woman were the supreme objects of God’s favor, they were marred and separated from Him by their voluntary disobedience called "sin." The sacredness of humanity is evident in that Christ came to die in our place and redeem man from the curse of sin. Therefore, people of every race possess such value and dignity, each is worthy of respect and Christian love.

Salvation
Salvation is a beautiful gift from God to man. Since good works or self-improvement could never remove the guilt and shame of our sins, God Himself designed a plan to save, redeem, and set us free. Through His mercy and undeserved favor, we can be forgiven by believing with all our hearts that Jesus Christ died in our place, the blood He shed washed away all our sins, and that He was resurrected from the dead so that we could have eternal life.

The Church
The true Church (“called-out ones”) is composed of believers from every tribe, language, and nation. Through saving faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit regenerates and unites us into a “body” of believers, of which Christ is the head. As He commanded, our responsibility is to proclaim the “Good News” about Jesus all over the earth.

Baptism and the Lord's Supper
Christian baptism, which is a full immersion in water, symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, and publicly declares that we have personally accepted Him as our Lord and Savior. The Lord's Supper, or Communion, is an ordinance given by Christ to help us remember His sacrifice for our sins. As we partake of bread and juice of the vine, which are symbols of Christ’s broken body and shed blood, we look back to His death and resurrection—and forward to His second coming.

Evangelism and Missions
It is both a duty and privilege for every congregation and follower of Jesus Christ to personally share our faith and make disciples among all nations.

The Family
God has ordained the family to be the foundational institution of human society. Marriage, a model of God’s relationship with His people, is the union of one man and one woman in covenant commitment. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in His image. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.
